Island Transporation

Getting Around Whidbey Easy and Free!

TRIP PLANNING

The best way to navigate around the island using the transit bus system is to use Google Maps selecting the BUS option.  Google maps uses the Island Transit Schedules and Routes.  Important to note that this tool will give you good times specific to the airport location whereas with the schedules by Island Transit will not give you that detail.  You have to figure it out from the stops before and after the airport stop.  We have provided that in this section for you.  However, the Google map option works really well.  This will become obvious as you look at the schedules and realize there is NO airport listed stop in the Transit schedules.  You have to know it is on Monroe Landing Rd then  you  make best estimate from the previous stop.  Let Google maps do that for you.  It’s easy!

Free Bus Transportation

When you fly into Delaurentis Airport you will find it very easy to get around the island.  Most useful is the Island Transit system that has a stop right next to the airport parking lot.  It is FREE!  Two things to pay attention to in using it.  The Weekday schedule has many bus runs, almost hourly.  The Weekend schedule is more limited.

Transit Service Guides Booklets are in the Pilot’s Lounge.  Yellow vests to make sure you are easily seen are with the booklet .  Borrow and return.

Best to plan reviewing the schedules prior to landing so you line up with a run that works best leaving the airport AND returning to the airport.  Island Transit buses go to all of the major towns and cities on Whidbey.

If you have landed and are not sure what the schedule is you will find them posted in the pilot’s lounge. The entry code is 122.8.  You  will see the phone number to the dispatcher for Island Transit who you can call and they will help you.  Also you can get those schedules on your phone by simply downloading the Transit Service Guide

Take note that the bus will NOT stop at the airport stop UNLESS someone is waiting at the Stop.  Be sure you stand on the correct side of the road.  For catching the bus going to Coupeville heading South be on standing on the side the bus is on and Raise you arm indicating you want to get on. That works going to Oak Harbor too.  The busses come fast so keep an eye out for them so they have plenty of time to see you and get stopped.

Going South?   Bus to Coupeville and South Schedules  (Stand on West Side of the road in front of the Airport)

Going North?  Bus to Oak Harbor and North Schedules (Stand on the East side of the road next to the bus sign)

OTHER TRANSPORTATION

Bikes

The airport has several bikes available to any pilots wanting to use them to get to Oak Harbor or Coupeville.  Oak Harbor is beautiful 3+ miles ride via back roads and Coupeville is 7+ miles, using Highway 20 for much of the way.  To arrange, send us an email or call via our contact information on our website.
